DEAR EDITOR TBL has work to do on lake plan

-

TBL is asking and ruling out asphalt driveways within a certain distance from the lake, this is in order to allow rainwater to sink into the ground instead of flowing directly into the lake carrying with it sediment and other chemicals. A very good initiative indeed, but why only to citizens and not to TBL itself. TBL has asphalted about an acre of the parking lot at Douglass Beach whose slant is carrying rain water and other directly into the lake in high volumes due to no absorption at all, where the asphalt was installed. Makes no sense at all, yet TBL is in constant contradiction of its rules and recommendations.

Houses are being built so big there is little or no room left for water absorption allowing fast flow of sediments into the lake. What has happened to common sense? Paying out thousands of dollars to Renaissance Lac-brome to make recommendations on preserving lake quality, then TBL doing the exact opposite. Is tax money revenue becoming so important that the lake quality has lost total importance?

Earlier this spring I discussed issues concerning Tiffany Beach with TBL town manager, its dangerous access with a boat, and the available space for TBL residents for access. His reply after discussion with TBL council was they had no plans to provide a decent safe access for TBL residents with boats and that Tiffany was okay and safe, but the manager did say he would have parking meters at a rate of $20 to discourage outsiders from occupying all the space available . TBL residents would not have to pay. All surrounding municipalities provide FREE and safe access to lakes and rivers except Town of Brome Lake. Why ? We have bike paths, walking paths, one-million-dollar bridges, tennis, ball parks, beach, and you can name them all. Except a safe boat launch for its residents. Where are the parking meters for Tiffany ? September will be too late.

It’s time to get things done.
