Goutz’y program addresses physical activity and nutrition for youth

- BCN Staff

The Center national de cyclisme de Bromont (CNCB) and the Centre Marguerite Dubois are pooling their knowhow and their energy to launch a brand new educational and sports program, aimed at teaching healthy lifestyles to young people. This new program, called Goutz’y, will be offered in 2022 as a result of the new infrastructures of the CNCB, including the community kitchen.

According to the press release, the Goutz’y program is an educational and sports program, the goal of which is to encourage a physically active lifestyle by introducing young people to cycling activities, often the basis of active travel or accessible group activities.

As highlighted in the press release, through this program, young people will also learn how to choose the foods they will consume: favor raw and seasonal products and avoid processed products. In addition, they will learn to encourage the consumption of nutritious and accessible foods, and to adopt amore responsible food choices.

“Concretely, it is thanks to workshops guided by professionals (nutritionists, etc.), that young people will learn the key to local and responsible consumption, through the choice of food, but also by teaching cuisine that helps reduce food waste,” explained Valérie Marin, executive director of the Center Marguerite Dubois.

“Participants will also learn about bicycles thanks to the supervision of CNCB coaches who give them the desire to move,” added Nicolas Legault, General Manager of the Center national de cyclisme de Bromont

Through the population it targets and the workshops it offers, the Goutz’y program has a strong social dimension and CNCB is putting out a call to the community to get involved in its crowdfunding campaign in support of its initiatives.

The CNCB is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop cycling, from initiation to the elite, by providing a unique sporting experience. Through the development of its infrastructure, the CNCB aims to become the cycling hub of North America. The 20-acre CNCB site includes five different skill tracks for BMX and mountain biking, one provincial BMX track, three dirt jump lines unique in Quebec, 4.5 km of bike trails, and soon the only indoor velodrome in the country.

The mission of the Marguerite Dubois Center is to accompany, support and to educate people in their community living with a problem (safety food, material, financial and psychosocial) in order to enable them to regain their autonomy. The center offers its users, previously determined by a review of their financial situation, a food bank, furniture, clothing and other goods from its thrift store to improve their quality of life.
