Featured pets: Ida, Dale and Trapper

-

Barn placement needed for bonded trio of cats. We know finding barn placement for three cats won’t be easy, but we are determined to try. Ida, Dale and Trapper were rescued from the outdoors and although we hoped that in time, we could get them to a place where they would be comfortable living indoors, they have made little progress.

Lacking socialization, all three are fearful of people and after several months, although more accustomed to our presence, they still cannot be touched. To be happy, they need to live in an environment where they can roam freely outdoors while having access to a warm and secure shelter with a caretaker who will treat them kindly and provide them with food and water.

They are not aggressive, but they are stressed and unhappy and they do not like being confined at the shelter. Once settled into their “barn cat” life, they will be more at ease and likely grow more confident. In fact, both Ida and Dale, who lived outdoors together, were the most social of the many cats who lived alongside them. We don’t know much about Trapper’s history, but he clearly lacked socialization and was probably an outdoor cat most, if not all of his life.

Ida, Dale and Trapper have formed a wonderful and close bond and can often be found sleeping huddled together in the same cubby. It would be heartbreaking to separate them. They may not be the most people friendly cats, but they aren’t mean, they are just scared. They deserve to be happy. They are not happy now and they will not be happy in a home.

In a good barn, with a caretaker who is committed to meeting their basic needs, it’s actually a pretty good life for cats like Ida, Dale and Trapper, who, as much as we tried, are not suited to be family pets. We will make certain proper confinement procedures are followed to ensure they are safely acclimatized to their new environment before being released.

For the right barn, we are willing to travel to keep this adorably bonded trio together. All three are approximately 3-5 years old.

If you have a warm and safe barn and can make a little room for these three lovely cats, we’d love to hear from you.
