Sherbrooke police investigating fire, fraud

- Record Staff

The Sherbrooke Police are looking for help identifying suspects in two different crimes. Around 3 :25 a.m. on July 11, a fire was deliberately set inside of a vehicle parked on Laurier Street. A suspect of medium build was captured on film hanging around near vehicles and garbage bins. He was wearing a coat and pale shorts, dark shoes, a backpack and a bag with a shoulder strap. He left the scene at 3 :23 a.m.

Two minutes later, two other suspects of a similar build arrived, one of whom was carrying an object attached to a string in his right hand. The other had a shoulder bag and appeared to be pulling an object out of the bag with his right hand. On the video suspects two and three pass to the right of the dark sedan parked on the side of the road, then in front to get to the street. The fire starts behind the dark sedan.

Suspect two was wearing a light coat, army style pants, light shoes and has short dark hair. Suspect three was wearing a dark coat, dark pants, dark shoes, had a dark shoulder bag, a cap and wore a face mask. All three men appear to be Caucasian.

The second, unrelated incident took place on Aug. 2 and concerns fraud.

An individual phoned the complainant pretending to be an employee of Laurentian Bank. He explained to her that she was defrauded and that she must give her debit card and her credit card to the man who will come to her door to sort out the fraud.

A few minutes later a man arrived on the porch of the building. The cards were handed over and the next day $2,160 was stolen from the plaintiff’s account.

The suspect who showed up to pick up the cards was filmed in the building’s entryway. He is estimated to be around 25 years old and wore a clean dark blue shirt and clean black pants. He had gold earrings in each ear. The complainant believes he was wearing a wig.
