THE FIRST ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY SKI

-

To make the most environmentally friendly ski WNDR Alpine teamed up with biotech company Checkerspot. Together they developed algae-based materials that WNDR uses in its two backcountry-focused skis, the Intention 110 and Vital 100.

“Instead of being forced to choose from a limited selection of existing materials to use in a product, we design the performance characteristics we want directly into the materials,” WNDR says.

The heart of both skis is Algal Core, aspen wood integrated with an algae-derived polyurethane. It’s a light and damp mix. The second technology is Algal Wall, a process that bonds an algae polyurethane sidewall to the core without the need for epoxy, creating a stronger interface and much less waste.
