Premier shows real leadership again

I’ve watched real leadership once again from Premier [Stephen] Mcneil a short time ago on TV in Cape Breton, where he announced the closure of two mostly- unmanned emergency units. As well, he was there to announce the addition of new facilities and upgrades.

The next day, locals were complaining that the premier didn’t explain anything and that he hadn’t consulted with anyone. Nothing could be further from the truth. The people who attended the announcement never gave him a chance to speak, let alone explain his decision-making process. They were rude and booed him so that he couldn’t be heard.

Our health-care costs are out of control and something needs to be done.

Even with the premier’s bold leadership on this one, progress will require more of the same. Someone needs to take the reins and make the changes now if we are to have any affordable future — thank you, Mr. Premier!

Now, Mr. Premier, get us out from under the thumb of Northern Pulp. Get on the feds to help.

If the feds won’t help, our cheapest and most environmentally-friendly method is to buy or expropriate the mill [Northern Pulp]. Then, either shut it down or modernize it with a self-contained, waste-reuse system, like other modern mills.

Mr. Premier, you may not garner another term as things stand now. People hate change and progress. It takes leadership to get things done. Go ahead, make all the changes that you know need to be done before it is too late. History will thank you, as a tax payer, I know I will.
