Thousands raised at Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health
More than $34,000 was raised at the 14th annual Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health tournament in support of the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation, hosted at the River Hills Golf Course in Clyde River onfriday, July 13.
Thirty-two teams competed in this year’s tournament and were treated with great playing conditions, and lots of laughs.
“It’s wonderful,” said Shelley as he was nearing the end of his round. “The whole course is beautiful. This is our third year here in Clyde River and when you get the weather like this, it’s one of the most picturesque places in the world, left alone to be able to play golf out here like this. The people are great, the sponsors stepped up and the volunteers to make this a wonderful day.”
Taking first place in the fourball scramble was the Pam and Keith Condon team; second place went to the team of Dr. Paul Legere, while the Comeau’s Sea Foods Ltd. team placed third. Winner of the trip for two to any home game of the Columbus Blue Jackets hosted by Shelley was Al Covey.
Proceeds from the Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health will be directed towards the purchase of the $185,000 cost of a dedicated ultrasound for diagnostic imaging.
Next year the Jody Shelley
Golf Fore Health tourney will move to the Digby Pines Golf Resort, and will take place on Friday, July 12. As the Yarmouth Regional Hospital serves the Tri-county area of Shelburne, Digby and Yarmouth; Mary Surette, development co-ordinator for the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation said, “it is only too fitting that Jody Shelley’s Golf Fore Health will play at each golf course in the Tri-county area.”
In the past the tournament has been held at the Pubnico, Clare and Yarmouth golf courses.
“Jody is looking forward to returning to Nova Scotia again next year to play at Digby Pines,” Surette said. “It is so wonderful to meet so many amazing supporters and volunteers in southwest Nova Scotia.”
Surette said the foundation would like to say “a huge thank you to our sponsors: Pam and Keith Condon, Moses Medical Inc, Pink Star Barro, Tim Hortons, AF Theriault & Son Ltd., Acadian Seaplants, Murray Dodge, Tricounty Vanguard, Comeau’s Sea Foods, Clearwater, MCT Insurance, Murray GM and Tri-star. It is the ongoing support of these organizations along with many participants, contributors and volunteers that make this event such a success.”
