2015 Ford Mustang is officially revealed

- NAUMAN FAROOQ

Car enthusiasts around the world, the wait is finally over. The 2015 Ford Mustang has been unveiled, and it looks stunning.

The shape is an evolution of the current Mustang, with sharper and sleeker lines. The front end is dominated by a large two-part grille, with the classic Mustang logo in the center. The slim new headlights visually tie the 2015 Mustang with other new Ford models like the Fusion and the Taurus. At the back, you still get the traditional three-bar taillights with sequential turn sig- nals. So the new Mustang has moved the design forward, while also keeping true to its history. For motivation, the 2015 Mustang will be offered with three engines. The 3.7L V6 and the 5.0L V8 remain largely unchanged, although Ford is being candid about publishing their exact power outputs. All Ford will say for now is that the V6 will have at least 300 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque, and the V8 will yield more than 420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.

The big news regarding the 2015 Mustang’s powertrain is the new 2.3L I4 EcoBoost unit. This motor uses a low-inertia, twin-scroll turbocharger plus direct fuel injection to produce its power. How much power? Again, Ford is keeping the exact numbers close to its heart, but is hinting at over 305 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque.

For all Mustang models, power is still fed to the rear wheels, via either a sixspeed manual gearbox or a new six-speed automatic with steering wheelmounted shift paddles.

Underneath, gone is the archaic live-axle rear suspension system and in comes a fully independent setup. Will this be the best handling Mustang ever? We can’t wait to find out.

On April 17, 2014, the Mustang will be 50 years old. To mark this anniversary, all 2015 models will wear a badge on the instrument panel that reads “Mustang — Since 1964.” Production of the Mustang will stay at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
