Coaching course offered Feb. 1 and 2
An NCCP Special Olympic Competition Coaching Course is being offered in Swift Current on Feb. 1 and 2.
This two-day course goes over how to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities and associated disabilities. For current volunteers, this course is needed in order to take athletes to competitions and to help make them better athletes and individuals. The course is also designed to also help everyone feel more comfortable when working with special needs athletes. Even parents and chaperones are encouraged to take the course.
The main context is sports but the information is easy to transfer for those working in group homes or training centers or within families.
For students this course would be a good thing to have on your resume as well as opening the door to helping you getting involved in this volunteer area.
It does not matter what sport you are interested in or help with, whether it is swimming, bowling, curling, weight lifting, or any other, this course focuses on our athletes and how to work with them in any environment.
The registration deadline for the course is Jan. 21, but early registration will help ensure the course is not cancelled due to a lack of interest.
Additional information on registration and the course details is available by contacting Jackie Powell at powelljd @sasktel.net.
