Three Swift Current rinks advance to Southern Playdowns

Three Swift Current Curling Club teams will be competing in the SaskTel Tankard Men’s Southern Playdowns from Jan. 16 to 19 at the Highland Curling Club in Regina.

The CurlSask Southwest Region Playdowns were held at the Shaunavon Curling Club on Saturday and Sunday with four representa­tives qualifying for the Men’s Southern Playdowns.

Qualifying in the A event was Team Kirkpatric­k of the Swift Current Curling Club.

Skip Max Kirkpatric­k was joined by third Shaun Meachem, second Jeff Chambers, and lead Shawn Hiebert.

Qualifying in the B event was Team Sydorko from the Moose Jaw Curling Club. Skip Wade Sydorko’s rink was rounded out by third Cole Tenetuik, second Chadd McKenzie and lead Derek Dejaegher.

Qualifying in the C event was Team Quintin out of the Swift Current Curling Club.

Rod Quintin was joined by third Dan Kennedy, second Mitch Minken and lead Clayton Wicks.

Qualifying in the D event was Team Hadden from the Swift Current Curling Club. Reagan Hadden’s rink was also comprised of third Ron Bailey, second Neil Anderson and lead Ryan Neustaeter.

The SaskTel Tankard will take place at the Crescent Point Wickenheis­er Centre in Shaunavon from Jan. 29 to Feb. 2. Ten spots are available through the North and South Playdowns this weekend in Meadow Lake and Regina.

The teams of Jeff Hartung, Darrell McKee, Brock Virtue, Scott Bitz, Kevin Marsh and Steven Laycock have all booked their tickets to Shaunavon already.
