Dance 4 Dorie fundraiser this Saturday

Southwest residents are invited to put on their dancing shoes and Zumba the night away in support of Dorie’s House.

The Dance 4 Dorie Zumbathon will be hosted on Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Living Sky Casino’s Sky Centre, with proceeds donated to Dorie’s House.

Christine Ciona from The KIVA Studio noted the idea for a fundraiser in support of the Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter has been in the works since this past December. With the community having rallied around the construction of the building, KIVA wondered how they could use their talents to support fundraising efforts.

“What we’re really good at is helping people feel good through movement and dance. I’m not a contractor so I can’t put my handwork to work in that capacity, but I can definitely inspire people through movement and dance,” Ciona said.

Tickets to participate in the two-hour Zumbathon are $30 each, and are available in advance from Pharmasave, The KIVA Studio and online at www.welcometokiva.com/ special-events

“I thought this was a really great fit because it is all about joy, and dancing really makes us feel good. And it’s something that youth at risk totally need is an opportunity to feel good, and to be supported. And so it’s really fun. We just all can contribute by coming together and celebrating through dance and health and wellness.”

Individuals new to Zumba do not need to feel intimidated, as certified Zumba instructors from across the Southwest will be dancing on stage and guiding the fundraiser participants through two hours of dance and movement.

“It’s kind of like a follow-theleader thing,” Ciona said. “You don’t have to know how to dance. We guide you through it.”
