-

The community will have a pair of opportunities to support the Swift Current SPCA during the month of April.

On April 29, the SPCA will be the community charity which benefits from the Cypress Motors Ford Drive 4 UR Community event.

Ford will donate $20 to the SPCA for each test drive (one per household) of a new Ford vehicle that day to the Swift Current SPCA.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Swift Current Mall south parking lot. There will be several vehicles available to test drive, and Cypress Motors staff will be on hand to answers any vehicle related questions. Individuals taking a test drive must produce a valid driver’s license.

The SPCA will be hosting a hot dog barbecue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the test drive. In addition, there will be several SPCA pets on site for a meetand-greet/adoption fair and SPCA volunteers will be doing sparkle tattoos for $5.

“Ford and Cypress Motors love giving back to the community with the ‘Drive 4UR Community’ and ‘Drive 4UR School’ programs each year,“notes Cypress Motors’ Austin Parsons, who is coordinating the event. “We are looking forward to the chance to showcase some great Ford cars and trucks and help the dogs and cats in our area through this event.”

On April 21, the SPCA will hold their debut “Cinema SPCA”. The fundraiser features the showing of the family movie Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, and a pizza/pasta buffet from Boston Pizza. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Great Plains College gymnasium. Advance tickets are $30 each, or four for $100. Admission includes a pizza/pasta/ salad and dessert buffet, and the movie.

Since the early 1950’s, Great West Auto Electric has been and continues to be owned and operated by the Wiebe’s, a family with fourth generation roots in the City of Swift Current. We are unique in the fact that we remain privately owned and we remain involved in supporting our community in southwestern Saskatchewan.

Great West has had two locations in the city, with the current site serving customers for over 50 years. In the last few years, we have found ourselves struggling to find room to meet an ever increasing demand for inventory in an aging structure. Our plans to be able to support and service the entire southwest have brought us to this point, where we are now in the perfect situation to take our business into the future by building adjacent to our current location. It’s exciting for us to think we can blend into the downtown core as part of the Mainstreet Saskatchewan program and enhance the vision of our future community.

We will continue to provide excellent customer service as we move forward in our new home. This will be a lasting legacy to George Wiebe, who passed away unexpectedly in September at the age of 84, after working a full day as he did every day for 65 years. Randy, Leanne, Sharon and Darcy, along with the rest of the staff, plan to commemorate and to continue on as George did for many years to come….. and there will be further changes to announce in the next few months. Stay tuned!
