Former Writer-in-residence returning to wrap 2016-17 Write Out Loud
The 30th season of Swift Current’s Write Out Loud series will wrap up on May 17 when former Writer-inresidence Rod Macintyre returns.
The grand finale of the anniversary season series will be held at the Lyric Theatre starting at 7 p.m. Local musician Dani Jamieson will provide the musical entertainment for the evening.
In 1997-1998, Macintyre served as Writer in Residence at the Swift Current Public Library and took over management of the Swift Current reading series that continued to showcase Canadian authors and local writing talent.
His works include short story collections Feeding at Nine, Revved, The Crying Jesus, Apart, The Blue Camaro, and novel Yuletide Blues, all published by Thistledown Press. His stories have appeared in anthologies such as The Blue Jean Collection, Opening Tricks, What is Already Known, and 200% Cracked Wheat. His plays have been produced in such venues as 25th Street Theatre and the Station Arts Centre.
He is the recipient of many writing awards such as the Saskatchewan Book Award for Best Educational Book, and a Saskatchewan Book Award’s Saskatoon Book of the Year.
