Mid­get 57’s fall to vis­it­ing Red Sox

The host Swift Cur­rent 57’s lost both games to the vis­it­ing Muen­ster Red Sox Sun­day to fall to 0-4 in the Saskatchewan Pre­mier Mid­get AAA Baseball League this sea­son.

The 57’s lost the opener 19-2 when they al­lowed runs in five of seven in­nings, in­clud­ing an 11-run sev­enth in­ning. The 57’s were out-hit 12-7 but made eight er­rors to com­pound their prob­lems.

The 57’s scored in the first in­ning when Lo­gan Fritzke tripled and then scored on a Dayne Sten­son triple. They added the sec­ond run when Bray­den Matkowski sin­gled and even­tu­ally scored on a fly ball from Fritzke.

The 57’s had a much bet­ter show­ing in game two be­fore los­ing 3-2. Fritzke had a strong out­ing on the mound, al­low­ing four hits, four walks, and two runs, only one that was earned, while strik­ing out seven over five in­nings. Sten­son took the loss, al­low­ing one hit, four walks, and one un­earned run over two in­nings.

The 57’s fell be­hind 2-0 but tied the game in the sixth in­ning when Ay­den An­nala was hit by a pitch to plate Hunter John­son and

Brock Wall fol­lowed with a walk to bring home Ri­ley Hughes.

The Red Sox scored the win­ning run in the top of the sev­enth in­ning when they com­bined an er­ror with a walk, two stolen bases, and one sac­ri­fice fly to bring home Jay­den Huls.

The Mid­get 57’s will be on the road for the first time on Wed­nes­day when they visit the Regina Ath­let­ics.
