SCCHS ath­letes lead Rolling Hills Sec­tional

Swift Cur­rent Comp. ath­letes topped all six di­vi­sions they com­peted in and set a bunch of records at the Rolling Hills Sec­tional in Swift Cur­rent Wed­nes­day.

Grade 11 Lo­gan Fritzke topped the Se­nior Boys ag­gre­gate standings with 30 points, while team­mate Mikayla Swal­low topped the Se­nior Girls Divi­sion with 38 points.

Kalea Sauder compiled the max­i­mum 40 points to fin­ish atop the Ju­nior Girls Divi­sion, while Kay­den Dud­ley topped Ju­nior Boys with 32 points.

Ash­ley Macdon­ald topped Midget Girls with 36 points, while team­mate Scott Joseph won Midget Boys with 38 points.

Gull Lake’s Baylee Kir­wan won the Ban­tam Girls ti­tle with 31 points, while O.M. Ir­win’s Rhett Vavra topped Ban­tam Boys with 38 points.

A to­tal of 25 new records were set on the all-weather track with a steady tail­wind blow­ing to­wards the fin­ish line of the sprint­ing events and in the jump­ing pits.

Swal­low led the way with three new Se­nior Girls records. She set the mark in the 100 Me­tre Dash in 12.88 sec­onds. Swal­low also es­tab­lished a new record in Long Jump at 4.74 me­tres and Dis­cus at 28.30 me­tres.

Vavra added a pair of records in Ban­tam Boys when he fin­ished the 200 Me­tres in 25.08 sec­onds and sailed 5.42 me­tres in Long Jump.

Joseph also set a pair of new stan­dards in the Midget Boys divi­sion. He set new records in Long Jump at 5.88 me­tres and Triple Jump at 12.41 me­tres.

The Ban­tam Boys divi­sion had the most record-break­ing per­for­mances with seven in to­tal. École Cen­ten­nial’s Shane Friesen broke the 100 Me­tres Dash record in 11.99 sec­onds. Waldeck’s Justin Dueck added a new mark in the 800 Me­tres in 2:35.64. Gull Lake’s Som­mer Janzen ran the 1,500 Me­tres in 5:25.53 to es­tab­lish a new record. Waldeck’s Jesse Patzer added a Javelin record with a 35.98-me­tre toss. The fi­nal Ban­tam Boys record came from O.M. Ir­win in the 4x100 Me­tre Re­lay in 55.27 sec­onds.

The Ju­nior Girls divi­sion fol­lowed with six records on the day, five of them com­ing from the host Swift Cur­rent Ar­dens. Dani Messer sped around the bend to set a new record in the 200 Me­tres in 26.40 sec­onds. Team­mate Jenna Macdon­ald added a record in the 400 Me­tres in 1:08.81. Kalea Sauder joined her record-break­ing team­mates in the 80 Me­tre Hur­dles in 12.34 sec­onds and broke the 100 Me­tre Dash record in 12.28 sec­onds. The Ar­dens teamed up to set a new mark in the 4x100 Me­tre Re­lay in 53.52 sec­onds. The fi­nal Ju­nior Girls record was set by Her­bert’s Court­ney Funk in 12:27.72 in the 3,000 Me­tres.

Wy­mark’s Hil­lary La­celle added a new record in the Ban­tam Girls 80 Me­tre Hur­dles in 15.59 sec­onds, while Pon­teix’s Rhi­anna Ross es­tab­lished a new stan­dard of 8.69 me­tres in Shot Put. Wy­mark’s Kait­lyn Berggren also set a new Ban­tam Girls 200 Me­tres record in 28.62 sec­onds.

Two Midget Girls records fell on Wed­nes­day. Swift Cur­rent’s Ash­ley Macdon­ald set a new record in the 100 Me­tre Dash in 12.60 sec­onds, while team­mate Brielle Wall fin­ished the 80 Me­tre Hur­dles in 13.02 sec­onds.

Pon­teix’s Jan­ick Lacroix ran his way into the record books in the Midget Boys 3,000 Me­tres in 10:46.97. Swift Cur­rent’s Dal­ton Chalk added a record in the Ju­nior Boys 200 Me­tres in 24.41 sec­onds.

The Swift Cur­rent Colts added two records in the Se­nior Boys Divi­sion when Wes­ley Aibi fin­ished the 100 Me­tres in 11.17 sec­onds and Eric Wiebe reached the fin­ish line in 15.66 sec­onds in the 100 Me­tre Hur­dles.

The SHSAA Pro­vin­cial Track and Field Cham­pi­onships will be held in Saska­toon on June 2-3.


Waldeck’s Jesse Patzer set a new Ban­tam Boys Javelin record with a 35.98-me­tre toss at the Rolling Hills Sec­tional on May 17 in Swift Cur­rent.
