South­west Soc­cer­fest turns 20

A to­tal of 57 games were played dur­ing the 20th an­nual South­west Soc­cer­fest tour­na­ment over three days when 11 United teams took part in the tour­na­ment’s eight dif­fer­ent di­vi­sions.

The U16 United Girls led the way with four shutout wins to claim gold. They won both games against the Moose Jaw Storm 3-0 and de­feated Regina’s QC United 5-0 in both con­tests.

The U10 United Girls won their three-team tour­na­ment with one win and three draws. They de­feated the Wey­burn Red Devils 2-0 and also tied. The U10 United girls also tied Regina’s QC United 1-1 in both meet­ings.

The U10 Boys United Strik­ers placed sec­ond out of four teams with a 2-2 record. They opened the tour­na­ment with a 3-2 win over QC Black. They fol­lowed up with a 5-2 win over QC United be­fore los­ing 3-1 to the United Bar­bar­ians.

The U10 Boys United Bar­bar­ians lost 3-0 to QC United and 5-3 to QC Black be­fore re­bound­ing to defeat the United Strik­ers 3-1.

The U12 Boys United Light­ning ad­vanced to the fi­nal with a 2-0-1 record be­fore los­ing 4-0 to Medicine Hat Barca to win sil­ver.

They tied Medicine Hat Madrid 3-3 to open the tour­na­ment. The United Light­ning added a 5-2 win over the Leth­bridge Rocca Rebels and a 3-1 win over QC United.

The U12 Boys United Thun­der fin­ished with a 1-1-1 record. They tied the Wey­burn Black Devils 2-2, de­feated QC United Black 6-1, and lost 3-1 to Medicine Hat Barca.

The U12 United Girls White team placed sec­ond out of five teams with a 3-1 record. They opened the tour­na­ment with a 7-2 win over Swift Cur­rent United Red. Satur­day, they de­feated Medicine Hat 5-4 and then lost 3-2 to Wey­burn. They con­cluded the tour­na­ment Sun­day with a win over QC United.

The U12 Girls Red lost all four of their games against United White, Medicine Hat, QC United and Wey­burn.

The U16 Boys fin­ished in a three-way tie for first place with two wins and two losses, but placed third on goal dif­fer­en­tial. They de­feated Moose Jaw Ex­cel­sior 2-1 and lost 4-1. They also de­feated Kin­der­s­ley 1-0 and lost 2-0.

The U14 Girls had a dif­fi­cult week­end as they lost all four games against Medicine Hat and Wey­burn.

The U14 United Boys played two ex­hi­bi­tion games against Medicine Hat teams and emerged with a 4-3 win and a 3-1 loss.

United teams will be back in ac­tion this week­end when they head to Saska­toon for the 21st an­nual Harder Avalon Clas­sic.

11 dif­fer­ent Swift Cur­rent United Soc­cer Club teams took part in the 20th an­nual South­west Soc­cer­fest tour­na­ment over the week­end.
