City Council approves a revised contract for hosting CCA Finals Rodeo

The City of Swift Current has approved a new partnership contract for hosting the Canadian Cowboys’ Association Finals Rodeo in order to be more equitable to all hosting partners.

The amended agreement focusses on the financial consideration portion of the contract and a more equitable distribution of the net profits generated by the annual event.

“The contract was revised because we noticed that based on the way the original contract was, that one of the three partners in this event could end up depending on how the revenues were - were working for basically nothing,” explained City of Swift Current Chief Administrative Officer Tim Marcus.

The event is put on as a partnership between the City of Swift Current, the Canadian Cowboys’ Association, and the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association. The new contract sets out the distribution of net profits for when the event clears over $325,000 and for how the money is split if it falls below that total.

“Originally it was structured, it would have worked out ok if the revenues had grown at a faster rate. But it was an oversight. And so after the second year when we realized how it was going to end up, we wanted to be fair to the partners so we revised it.”

“So it made sense as per the suggestion from the other two partners,” he said. “We wanted to ensure that all the partners got some revenues from this event regardless of what the total revenues were. It’s only fair to everybody involved.”
