Newly crowned Adrianna Simpson is excited about the opportunity to serve as the 2018 Frontier Days Ambassador.

Simpson officially took over from 2017 ambassador Brooklynn Becker of Hazlet during Saturday’s Discover The Farm: A Farm Facts Experience.

“I can’t wait to just tell kids my story, and tell kids that determination and hard work can get you places in life and to never give up,” Simpson said in advance to receiving the Frontier Days Ambassador Crown.

Simpson, who has shown at the Regional 4-H Judging Competition during Frontier Days for the past decade, has known about the Swift Current Agricultural and Exhibition Association’s ambassador program for a number of years. She feels she is a perfect fit to promote rural Saskatchewan and Frontier Days.

“My family’s really big on youth and agriculture and telling our story. And I wanted to let kids know that you can do anything if you set your mind to it.”

“And this is something that I really wanted to do for a very long time, and so I set my mind to it. I worked hard. I used determination and leadership skills I didn’t even know I had. And I was given the opportunity, which I’m so thankful for.”

Adrianna and her family, parents Jeremy and Kimberly Simpson and sister Jorja, live on a large community pasture near Kyle. She is excited to share her background and importance of knowing where your food comes from.

“I think it’s amazing for people to how animals help feed the world. I think it’s great for kids to know when they’re eating a cheeseburger, or when they’re eating a turkey, or when they’re eating a roast, I think it’s great how they can think step by step how that food got to their plate.”

She is also looking forward to her double duties during Frontier Days as both a 4-H member and Ambassador.

“This year at Frontier Days will be a milestone for me, it’ll be one to remember since I’m the Youth Ambassador. And then I’m also on the show side of it. So I’m super excited to be experiencing not only the showing side of it again, but also to be experiencing the Youth Ambassador part of it.”

“I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the help of 4-H and the people that I surround myself with - through agriculture, through the beef industry and through 4-H. It has opened a lot of doors for me. And it’s a place that I feel very welcome.”

Simpson will now gear up for a busy 80th annual Frontier Days on June 28 to July 1. She will be involved with everything from the kick-off Pancake breakfast on June 28, riding in the colours during the Canadian Cowboys’ Association rodeos, through to the Frontier Days Parade on June 30.
