City services will support spring cleaning and spring play around Swift Current

-

Homeowners tackling spring cleaning projects this weekend are being reminded of some assistance being provided by the City of Swift Current.

The annual Household Hazardous Waste Day will be held on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Kinetic Park.

This annual opportunity provided by the City of Swift Current Infrastructure & Operations Division allows city residents to bring hazardous household items for free disposal. These items include: chemicals, solvents, old paint (new paint can go directly to SARCAN), aerosol containers, glue, batteries, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and fluorescent light bulbs.

This service is available to households only. Items from businesses and farms will not be accepted.

Swift Current City Council was told on Monday that the City will soon be setting up Yard Waste disposal locations at two locations around the community.

The Southside location, scheduled to be situated on the old St. Josephs School site, is expected to be in place for this weekend. The Northside location will be delayed until the conclusion of the Swift Current Broncos season.

City residents can also dump yard waste at the Swift Current Landfill on Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The return of spring weather is also triggering the opening of additional city amenities.

As of this past weekend, the parks washrooms throughout Swift Current are now open. These facilities are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Families are also being invited to participate in a bike safety event on Wednesday, May 16. The City of Swift Current is teaming up with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Bright Beginnings Family Centre for this safety opportunity at ACT Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Volunteers will be conducting helmet and bike inspections, and there will be safety awareness and fun cycling activities taking place at the park. Participants can also enjoy a free hot dog from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
