AAA 57’s busy across the province

The Swift Current Midget 57’s won once in four attempts in the Saskatchew­an Premier Midget AAA Baseball League over the weekend.

Saturday, the 57’s scored 10 runs over the final two innings to defeat the Saskatoon Diamondbac­ks 11-9.

Logan Fritzke got the win on the mound and finished with two hits, including a double, two runs batted in, and one walk. Nic Bachiu finished the game with one hit, two runs scored, two RBI, and one walk. Hunter Johnson added two hits and two RBI. Nolan Klein and Quinn Patenaude each scored twice.

The second game did not turn out nearly as well as the 57’s fell 14-3 in five innings.

The 57’s were held to just two hits, led by a single, an RBI, and a stolen base by Bachiu.

The 57’s hosted the Saskatoon Cubs on Sunday and lost the opener 9-1 when they ran into flamethrow­er Connor Sparks. Sparks allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out 10 over five innings.

The 57’s scored their only run in the sixth inning when Brody Alexandre doubled home Mac Gross.

The two teams combined for 28 hits and 23 runs in the second game as the Cubs earned a 13-10 win to drop the 57’s to 2-5 on the campaign.

Fritzke finished with four hits, including two doubles, three runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base. Alexander also had four hits, three RBI, and one run scored. Josh Piermantie­r added a three-hit outing with three runs scored and a stolen base. Gross added three RBI with two hits. Patenaude was on base with three walks and one hit to go with two runs scored and one RBI.

Alexandre finished the week second in the league with a .632 average and 10 runs batted in. Fritzke was tied for third in the league with nine RBI and Gross was close behind with seven.

The Midget 57’s will return to league action on May 26 when they visit the Regina Athletics.

The Bantam AAA 57’s hosted a pair of double headers. They won both games over Alameda on Saturday, beginning with an 11-0 win. They added a comeback 17-15 win game two when Kole Geisbrecht hit a two-out home run to win the game.

Sunday, the Bantam 57’s added 14-8 and 14-10 wins over visiting White Butte to improve to 8-0 to start the season.

The Bantam 57’s are back at home on May 25 to host the Regina Buffalos.

The Peewee AAA 57’s were in Regina for four games over the weekend. Saturday, the 57’s lost 8-7 and 14-0 to the Regina Buffalos. They rebounded Sunday with a 14-10 win over the Regina Pacers when Braeden Bourlon struck out eight in the win. They lost the rematch 14-4. The Peewee 57’s will host the Pacers for two games next Sunday.

The Mosquito 57’s were in Regina on Saturday and won 11-1 over the Regina Buffaloes and then lost 8-1 to the Regina White Sox.

They traveled south on Sunday and defeated the Estevan Sluggers 14-2 and 19-12.

The Mosquito 57’s will be in Weyburn on Sunday for two league games.
