Busy summer work schedule on Southwest roads

A trio of work projects on Southwest roads will have an impact on summer traffic.

A bridge rehabilitation has begun on the span of the Highway #4 bridge over the South Saskatchewan River. This $5 million project at Saskatchewan Landing began on May 28, and traffic will be restricted to one lane until the target completion date of October 30.

Work is also underway for a $5.2 million paving project on Highway #4 from just north of Swift Current to Stewart Valley. This project began on June 17, and motorists can expect delays as traffic is reduced to a single lane until around July 1.

Crews are now well into a $2 million surfacing of just over eight kilometres of Highway #21 near Maple Creek. The work is occurring south of the junction of Highway #271. Minor delays and disruptions will continue until the project is completed around July 4.

Workers also recently completed a $7.1 million surfacing project on Highway #4 near Cadillac. A $4.5 million surfacing project on Highway #32 near Cabri has been wrapped up. The May project surfaced Highway #32 from 1.8 kilometres northwest of Cabri and Hospital Road to 3.9 kilometres northwest of the Grid 633 access to Shackleton.

The province is reminding travellers they need to obey signs, stay alert and slow to 60 kilometres per hour through the work zone. There may be cases when workers are not present that still require you to slow down. A sharp pavement drop or loose stones during a seal coat are examples of hazards that warrant a slower posted speed.
