Nickel wrestles at Cadet World Championships
The 57’s will play six games in seven days this week, beginning on Thursday when they host the Regina Red Sox. The 57’s will visit the Brooks Bombers on Friday and the Weyburn Beavers on Sunday.

Swift Current’s Aleah Nickel lost her opening match at the 2018 Cadet World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. She lost by fall in the opening round to Mongolia’s Oyungerel Batkhuyag.
Nickel, 17, was one of 23 wrestlers in the women’s 61 kilogram division. She was eliminated when Batkhuyag lost to Japan’s Riko Takayama in the quarterfinal.
Nickel and her family were staying in Croatia to do some sightseeing, but she did post a message on her Facebook page on Saturday.
“This is something would’ve never Monday against Yorkton before visiting Moose Jaw on Tuesday and Melville on Wednesday. imagined when I first started wrestling. Being able to represent my country is an amazing feeling that I will never lose. I may have lost but I know that I had so much support from everyone back home. Yet, I couldn’t have been prouder of that match. I went out and I controlled it. I came off the match knowing that if I wouldn’t have gotten caught in a throw then I would’ve been able to win. My coach Shane Bradley was just as proud of me here as when I won my gold national medal. I came off the mat with a feeling of wanting more. I’ll be back and I’ll go and be my best again,” Nickel wrote.
