Midget 57’s win three Saskatchew­an Premier Baseball League games

The Swift Current Midget AAA 57’s won three league games last week as they near the end of their regular season schedule.

Tuesday, the host 57’s won their third straight game before rain washed out the back half of a Saskatchew­an Premier Midget AAA Baseball League double header against the Regina White Sox.

The 57’s took the opener 9-7 after scoring five runs in the opening inning. Regina came back to tie the game 6-6, but the 57’s scored three of the final four runs to seal the win.

The 57’s had five players with multiple-hit outings as they finished with 12 hits and took advantage of four errors.

Third baseman Brody Alexandre led the way with two singles, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Pitcher Logan Fritzke finished with two hits, two RBI, and one run scored. Nathan Mcinnis had the only extra base hit with a double, a single, and one RBI. Nic Bachiu finished with one hit, one stolen base and two RBI. Leadoff man Quinn Patenaude singled twice, walked, and scored. Mac Gross also had two hits and scored.

Fritzke got the win with six earned runs allowed over four innings. Nolan Klein locked down the win when he got the final nine outs while allowing one run over three innings.

The White Sox returned to Swift Current on Thursday and the 57’s knocked out 14 hits and took 12 walks to win 20-9, concluded by a 13-run sixth inning.

Seven players finished with at least two hits, including Patenaude, who finished with three hits, one walk, three runs scored, and two runs batted in. He also got the win on the mound after pitching the final three innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and two unearned runs with one strikeout.

Fritzke led the 57’s with four runs scored, while Klein and Brock Wall each crossed the plate three times, and Alexandre, Gross, and Mcinnis all scored twice. Wall, Gross, Mcinnis, and Bachiu all finished with three runs batted in.

Saturday, the 57’s split a pair of road games against the Muenster Red Sox.

A pair of six-run innings were impossible to overcome in a 15-12 loss in game one. The 57’s knocked out 12 hits, but made three errors in the three-run loss.

Fritzke led the 57’s with two hits, one run scored, and five runs batted in, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Patenaude singled, doubled, stole a base and scored three runs. Wall singled twice, walked, stole a base, scored twice, and knocked home one run.

The 57’s continued to swing the bats in game two as they won 8-7. Fritzke swatted his second home run of the day and third of the season. The 57’s finished with 13 hits, including five doubles. Joe Arntsen doubled, singled, scored twice and had one RBI. Reed Jacobson also doubled, singled, scored, and added two RBI’S. Bachiu doubled, singled, stole a base, and scored twice.

Klein got the complete game win on the mound and added a double and a single with one RBI.

Sunday, the 57’s led the opener but eventually lost 7-2 to the visiting South East Twins.

Wall had a strong start on the mound but his team left 11 runners on base in the loss. They scored the opening run in the third inning when Klein singled home Bachiu.

The Twins took the lead in the sixth inning with two runs, but the 57’s tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Gross scored on a Klein sacrifice fly.

The Twins scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning when they combined four hits with two errors to seal the win.

The 57’s lost the second game 7-4 when they were limited to seven hits and one walk. Wall finished with two hits and an RBI, while Fritzke and Alexandre both doubled and had one RBI.

The 57’s finished the weekend in seventh spot in the 10-team league with a 9-14 record.

The Midget 57’s next action will be Tuesday when they visit the White Sox for two games in Regina.
