Swift Current woman wins LOTTO 6/49 $1 million prize

-

Swift Current’s Kendra Bates-chomyn had a million dollar winning ticket in her possession for nearly four months without knowing it.

Bates-chomyn came forward this past week to cash in a $1 million prize from the May 16 LOTTO 6/49 draw.

She noted that she purchases $24 Super Packs once or twice a month, so sometimes she has a few tickets to check all at once.

In this instance, when her heard there was an outstanding million-dollar prize in Saskatchewan, she was still not in a hurry to check her tickets.

“But I didn’t think that my ticket would be the winner, so I didn’t rush to check it.”

This past month she did scan her tickets to see if there were any winners.

“I couldn’t believe it when the number came on the screen,” she said in a press release. “I scanned the ticket again and then took it to a different store to scan it a third time. It felt so surreal!”

She noted she is taking her time in deciding what to do with her winnings.

“I feel like we have to be responsible and make sure we’re set up for the long term,” she said. “We’ll still do some dreaming, but right now we’re more concerned with making the right decisions and planning for our family’s future.”

However, a trip to Europe and a new motorcycle are probably in her future.

Bates-chomyn purchased her winning LOTTO 6/49 ticket at Pioneer Co-operative Gas Bar, located at 1150 Central Avenue North in Swift Current.
