Southwest competitor­s chasing spots at CCA Finals

Southwest cowboys and cowgirls were in Beechy on September 21-23 attempting to secure spots at the CCA Finals during Beechy Western Days Indoor Rodeo.

Shamrock’s Kevin Turner and Kyle Chappel (Gravelbour­g) won Team Roping Average in Beechy. They were first in go-round one in 6.0 seconds and won the final in 5.8 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Adam and Tyler Gilchrist placed fifth in Team Roping Average. They were second in the first go round in 6.7 seconds.

Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz and Kevin Facca (Wiseton) were sixth in Team Roping Average. They tied for fourth in the first go round in 8.0 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Brady Bertram tied for first in Bareback in Beechy. He was third in go-round one with 74 points on Pass Due for $138 and then won the final with 74 points on Valley for $135. Consul’s Monty Koopman tied for first in go-round one with 78 points on Under Cover for $239.

Tyce Mcleod placed second in Tie Down Roping. He tied for second in go round one in 9.0 seconds for $432. Mcleod was third in the final in 8.9 seconds for $172. Lucky Lake’s Tyler Getz placed fourth in go round one in 9.1 seconds for $172.

Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist placed third overall in Saddle Bronc. He tied for fourth in the first go-round with 73 points on TSN for $46. He also tied for second in the final with 79 points on Stone for $117. Swift Current’s Timothy Costello also tied for fourth in the first go-round with 73 points on City Stars.

Chad Hantelman represente­d the Southwest in Steer Wrestling and earned a second-place finish in go round one in 4.8 seconds for $421.

Two Southwest cowgirls were in the money in the first go round in Ladies Barrel Racing. Cadillac’s Brooke Lang was third in 13.02 seconds for $342. Maple Creek’s Sydney Windjack tied for fifth in 13.27 seconds for $126.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin won Junior Steer Riding with a 79-point ride for $208.

Val Marie’s Mckenna Legault won Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.36 seconds for $165. Maple Creek’s Janae Wilson followed in 13.53 seconds for $82. Lily Wilson was fourth in 13.74 seconds for $41.

Consul’s Zane Tully added a win in Novice Bull Riding with 79 points for $168.

Maple Creek’s William Perrin added a second-place finish in Novice Saddle Bronc with 56 points for $108.

Maple Creek’s Blake Link was third in Novice Bareback with 61 points for $63.

The final CCA rodeo prior to the Finals will be Dodge City Days in Wapella on October 5-6.
