Wildcats split with Hounds

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats split a home and away set against the Notre Dame Hounds in the Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League last week.

Thursday, the Wildcats ran into a couple of standout performers in Wilcox. Kaitlyn Ross stopped all 42 shots she faced and Claire Nimegeers notched a hat trick to defeat the Wildcats 3-0.

The Wildcats finished with a 42-24 margin on the shot clock, including an 11-2 advantage in the final frame. The Hounds scored twice on eight power play opportunit­ies, while the Wildcats failed to convert on four manadvanta­ges. Harper Davey took the loss with 21 saves on 24 shots.

The two teams rematched on Saturday in Swift Current and Baylee Kirwan scored twice in the third period to lift the Wildcats to a 7-5 victory. The Wildcats led by 3-2 and 5-4 period margins before outscoring the Hounds 2-1 in the final frame.

Amaya Giraudier earned the win with 18 saves on 23 shots.

Taylor Lind and Kirwan both finished with two goals and one assist. Ashlee Wolfe and Trista Labaroski each added a goal and an assist, while Sara Kendall also scored. Maddy Mccleary and Layne Hryhoriw chipped in a pair of assists each, followed by single helpers from Shelby Rublee, Brooklyn Rublee and Kate Wagner.

The Wildcats will resume their league schedule on Nov. 17-18 when they host the Regina Rebels.
