Lucky Charlie’s Pub and Pool hosted the fourth annual Open Eight Ball Tournament on Oct. 19-20. Friday night kicked off with registration and a Mini Eight ball tournament. This was won by local player Dennis Gerbrandt.

The main tournament started Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with a field of 24 players. The list of entrants came from Medicine Hat, Maple Creek, Brooks, North Battleford, Saskatoon, Regina and Swift Current.

The day was filled with great eight ball action and lots of close matches.

A great time was had by all, with lots of kudos to Lucky Charlie’s for their professionally run tournament, excellent venue and awesome service provided by Lucky Charlie’s Tannis, who also provided food and coffee for the players throughout Saturday.

The tournament was a double knockout format, with the A side playing a race to seven and the B side a race to five. The top 25 percent of field were eligible for prize money.

The winner of the tournament was Janri Cruz from Saskatoon. The runnerup was Denis Chapados (current Saskatchewan Snooker Champion) from Regina and third place went to Kirby Ybanez of North Battleford and fourth to Robert Delfin of Swift Current. Fifth place to Jordan Schibler of Medicine Hat and sixth place to Albert Snyders of Brooks, AB. Total payout to the top six players was $2,150.

Scott and Kevin of Lucky Charlie’s were pleased with the tournament and turnout. “We were shooting for 32 players, unfortunately we had several date conflicts with other high profile tournaments,” said Scott. “Hopefully next year we can pack the house. Special thank you to Labatt’s for the $250 cash added sponsorship. Thanks to all the participants and the supporters for a great tournament.”
