Midget AA Broncos still cruising

It was business as usual for the Swift Current Abbey Resources Broncos as they won a pair of home games over the Estevan Bruins to improve to 19-0-0 in the Saskatchew­an Midget AA Hockey League.

The Midget AA Broncos opened an early lead on their way to a 6-1 win on Saturday. The Broncos scored three goals over the opening 10:15 and never looked back.

Chase Sawchuk led the way with a goal and two assists, followed by two goals from Cash Arntsen, a goal and an assist from Brock Oberle, and two assists from Quinn Pateneaude.

Levi Lamotte also scored, while Ryland Hornung, John Priela, Ryan Mccleary, and Hunter Johnson all added assists.

Justin Dueck earned the shutout as the Broncos outshot the visitors 26-20.

Sunday, the Broncos added a 4-1 win when Patenaude notched a hat trick. Matt Christians­on followed with a goal and an assist, while Jackson Sitter and Hornung each picked up a pair of assists. Beau Larson, Levi Lamotte, and Levi Brewer also added assists. Brad Nyen earned the win as the Broncos outshot the Bruins 34-23 while killing off all seven shorthande­d situations.

Hornung leads all league skaters with 24 assists and is second in the province with 34 points in 19 games. Larson is tied for third with 32 points.

Dueck leads all goaltender­s with a 1.33 goals against average, followed by Nyen with a 1.50 GAA.

The Broncos are on the road this weekend to visit the Bruins and the Weyburn Wings.
