Community Initiatives Fund dispersed to six Swift Current groups

A total of six Swift Current groups received a total of $123,000 when Community Initiatives Fund grants were handed out through their Community Grant Program.

A quartet of Swift Current groups received $25,000 grants (the Canadian Mental Health Association Swift Current Branch, the City of Swift Current for The Zone youth program, the Southwest Crisis Services for the Outreach Support Program for Males, as well as the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre’s Language Explorers Club). A $15,000 grant went to Saskabilities for the Seniors Exploring Community, and the United Way Active Play after school program received an $8,000 grant.

In addition, four childcare programs in the Southwest also received grant funding. The Reno Rascals Early Learning and Child Care in Consul was given a $15,520 grant for the Reno Rascals After School Program. The Herbert Community Preschool received $4,266, while the Hodgeville Preschool Program received a $4,500 grant. A grant for $600 went to the Hazenmore Tot Spot.

In total there were 151 grants worth $2.498 million distributed through the Community Grant Program for applications received for their October 1 deadline.

The Community Initiatives Fund is a Special Purpose Fund created by the Government of Saskatchewan through The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation Act. CIF receives a portion of the net revenues from casinos Regina and Moose Jaw via the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation and distributes those proceeds to support community-based projects throughout Saskatchewan.

They have distributed more than $148 million to over 400 communities across the province since their establishment in 1995.
