Gull Lake hosting numerous events to celebrate Hockey Day in Saskatchew­an

Hockey Day in Saskatchew­an has turned into an entire week of festivitie­s in Gull Lake. Hockey Day in Saskatchew­an is officially slated for January 19, but the events will get underway on Monday, January 14 and will continue until Sunday.

Monday’s festivitie­s will include the SWT Opening Ceremony on the ice at 7:45 p.m.

Tuesday, the Gull Lake Greyhounds will host a White Mud Hockey League contest against the visiting Cabri Bulldogs.

Wednesday, will be highlighte­d by a skate with the Swift Current Broncos at 4 p.m., followed by a meet and greet with the Broncos. The Pee Wee Cyclones will also host the Wood River Ice Cats at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday will feature the Skating Club Showcase at 5 p.m., a game between the Midget Cyclones and Wood River Ice Cats at 6 p.m. and a Gull Lake Alumni Game at 8:30 p.m.

Friday will include a sledge hockey game at 4 p.m. and a Banquet and Sports Auction at 5 p.m.

Saturday will feature activities around the community from nearly sunrise to sunset. Amongst the on-ice highlights will be a Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League game between the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats and the Battleford Sharks. The Wildcats feature Gull Lake’s Baylee Kirwan and Chris Kirwan is an assistant coach.

The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnair­es will host a Saskatchew­an Midget AAA Hockey League game against the Tisdale Trojans at 4 p.m. A Saskatchew­an Junior Hockey League game will take place at 7:30 p.m. between the Battleford­s North Stars and Notre Dame Hounds. Hockey Day in Saskatchew­an will conclude with fireworks at the ball diamonds starting 10 p.m. on Saturday.
