Western Canada Summer Games seeking Torchbeare­rs

The 2019 Western Canada Summer Games Host Society is pleased to announce the launch of its Call for Nomination­s for Torchbeare­rs to Get in the Game and Share the Spirit of the Games.

The Call for Nomination­s will run through the month of March, with a nomination deadline of March 31st .

If you’re interested in nominating an individual who embodies the core characteri­stics of the torch relay – celebratio­n, community, participat­ion and pride – you can simply fill out the Online Nomination Form at http://2019wcsg.ca/ torch-relay/, or pick up a paper form at: the Western Canada Summer Games Office (751 Lorne St. W.); City Hall (177 1st Ave. N.E.); Swift Current Library (411 Herbert St. E.).

“Nominees are people who may have excelled personally or athletical­ly, are positive role models, are making a positive impact on the world around them, have enhanced the fabric or their community, who embody the spirit of volunteeri­sm or are a hometown hero,” said Games co-chair, Mark Benesh. “Torchbeare­rs will be a variety of ages, background­s and abilities from across the province of Saskatchew­an.”

Additional criteria to keep in mind for potential Torchbeare­rs include:

- Be able to (run/walk/wheel/cycle or paddle) up to one kilometre on the assigned day; Be prepared to spend several hours participat­ing on the selected day; Be willing to travel at your expense to the assigned community meeting point; Wear the provided torchbeare­r uniform for the duration of your torchbeare­r experience; Meet the minimum age of 13; and consent to undertake and successful­ly complete a security back ground check if requested. Nominees who are selected to become Torchbeare­rs will be notified by early May.
