Cramer Cup the highlight of ninth annual Cramer Ag Expo
The ninth annual Cramer Ag Expo was hosted at the Stockade back on February 21, with the event having grown to Southern Saskatchewan’s largest agricultural trade show since their inaugural year in 2010.
The event was first hosted in Swift Current to fill a need in bringing industry-related suppliers under one roof for Southwest producers. It has grown into a popular opportunity for producers to learn about the latest innovations in livestock and crop production.
The showcase event of the day was the annual Cramer Cup Competition Series, where a total of 29 hog carcasses were entered in this prestigious competition. Judged by Jason Care, Manager/ Auditor of Manitoba Hog Grading with the Manitoba Pork Council, this annual competition grades the top carcass according to industry standards.
He noted that 96.5 per cent of the entries hit the maximum weight, marking the first time in a show that almost all the judged entries hit the maximum weight judging criteria. Additionally, almost 50 per cent scored maximum index points. There were only 10 points separating the top five carcasses.
The top five winners in the hog carcass completion were: 1) Earview Colony; 2) Smiley Colony; 3) Wymark Colony; 4) Baildon Colony; 5) Tompkins Colony.
These top five winners were auctioned off for charity, raising a total of $29,000 for STARS Air Ambulance, Ronald Mcdonald House and the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon.
