Midget AAA Wildcats take care of last place Wings

The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats got the job done with two wins over the visiting Weyburn Wings over the weekend.

Saturday, the Wildcats put 49 pucks on net in a 6-1 win, led by a hat trick from Baylee Kirwan.

The Wildcats won the special teams battle decisively with three power play goals in the first period and they killed off all eight shorthande­d situations.

Ryleigh White finished with a goal and three assists, while Sara Kendall added a goal and two assists and Brooklyn Rublee chipped in three assists. Veteran Ashlee Wolfe also scored.

Maddy Mccleary, Kamryn Johnson, Madison Garrett, and Samantha Thompson all added assists. Amaya Giraudier earned the win with 20 saves to improve to 6-0 with a .083 goals against average and a .956 save percentage.

Chloe Burt took the loss with 43 saves, while Sara Auchstaett­er scored the lone goal for the Gold Wings.

Sunday, the Wildcats followed up with a 5-1 win. Kendall scored twice, while Crystal Wale, Wolfe, and Kirwan also found the back of the net. Mccleary, Rublee, Kenedee Klevgaard, and Laiken Swan all added assists. Cheyenne Jamieson improved to 5-1 with 24 saves.

Lexi Peace took the loss with 20 saves on 25 shots, while Dakota Bowler scored the lone goal for the last-place Wings.

The Wildcats improved to 10-1-1-0 in second place in the Saskatchew­an Female Midget AAA Hockey League, only one point behind the Regina Rebels.

The Wildcats will return to league action on Jan. 3-5 in Prince Albert to open a busy eight- game month.
