Midget AAA Legionnaires winless at home
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires lost both home games over the weekend in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.
Friday, the Legionnaires lost a third straight game when they fell 4-3 in overtime to the visiting Battelfords Stars.
Tanner Willick scored in overtime to lift the Stars to the win. The Stars had fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 leads before Jake Southgate scored a shorthanded goal to give them a third-period lead.
Maguire Scheidt scored a highlight reel goal for the Legionnaires to force overtime with 5:50 remaining in regulation.
Riley Dekowny and Cash Arntsen also scored for the Legionnaires. Rhett Evjen, Jonah Regier, Brandon Von Hagen, and Carey Levesque all added assists.
Kyle Heintz and Vaughn Watterodt replied for the Stars.
Ethan Hein earned the win with 33 saves against his former team. Jacob Herman took the loss with 35 saves.
Sunday, the Legionnaires lost 4-2 to the visiting Tisdale Trojans. Von Hagen and Arntsen scored in the loss with assists from Logan Linklater and Evjen. Herman took the loss with 29 saves.
Swift Current’s Noah Wills had a goal and an assist for the Trojans.
The Legionnaires sat eighth in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with a 12-12-0-2 record coming out of the weekend.
The Legionnaires will return to league action on January 9 when they visit the Saskatoon Contacts.
The Legionnaires also learned their schedule for the Mac’s AAA Midget Hockey World Invitational last week. They will open the 25-team tournament on Dec. 26 against the Fort Sask Rangers. They will face the Lloydminster Bobcats the following day and the Okanagen Rockets on Dec. 28. The Legionnaires will conclude the round robin on Dec. 30 against the Okotoks Oilers.
