MP Anderson elected for a record sixth time in Southwest

It was an emotional weekend of healing as Sheldon Kennedy and the community of Swift Current took a major step forward in helping make a difference in preventing sexual abuse. Kennedy was the guest of honour in the community for a documentar­y screening of Swift Current, a film which shares Kennedy’s story of abuse at the hands of Graham James, along with the struggles endured by a pair of more recent abuse victims.

APRIL and were easily replaced by Doug Steele (Cypress Hills, 79.51 per cent of the vote), and David Marit (Wood River, 76.01 per cent of the vote). Premier Brad Wall maintained his seat in Swift Current, winning his fifth term with 82.43 per cent of the vote.

MAY

September 26 was a monumental day for Maverick High School, with the alternativ­e High School formally opening in its new location. Running for over 15 years out of a rented space on the corner of Chaplin St. and 4th Ave. N.W., the new school opened this fall in a newly renovated/constructe­d space at the former Kinsmen School site on Swift Current’s south side.

NOVEMBER Perrault elected new Swift Current Mayor

Former Councillor Denis Perrault was elected Swift Current’s new mayor with 84.2 per cent of the vote on October 26. All four Councillor­s running for re-election were returned to council (Ryan Plewis, Pat Friesen, George Bowditch and Ron Toles), with newcomers Bruce

Deg and Chris Martens added to city council.
