Winterrupt­ion headlines busy entertainm­ent calendar

The debut of Winterrupt­ion at the Lyric Theatre next weekend headlines a busy entertainm­ent calendar in Swift Current over the coming weeks.

The Lyric Theatre will be hosting evenings of drama, magic and music during the debut of Winterrupt­ion weekend on January 23, 24 and 25.

Winterrupt­ion beings on Thursday, January 23 with the return of Postcards At The Speed of Light. The production, featuring all local presenters, was previously shown during Chautauqua. The show features individual­s speaking about 20 different photo images, and having just 20 seconds before the next slide appears.

Second up during Winterrupt­ion will be an evening of magic by Derek Selinger in his performanc­e The Gift: No Smoke. No Mirrors. Just Magic.

The third night of Winterrupt­ion will deliver a hot night of reggae music with The Original Wailers featuring Al Anderson taking to the stage on Saturday,

January 25. The show is already sold out.

VIVA TRIO WITH THE RSO CHAMBER PLAYERS February 3

The 2020 debit concert in the 2019/2020 Stars for Saskatchew­an Concert Series will be on Monday, February 3 at 7:30 p.m. when Viva Trio takes the stage with the RSO Chamber Players.

The award-winning group VIVA Trio is gracing the stages of venues all over Canada, the United States and Europe! Singing everything from operatic classics to pop songs, like Sia’s Bird Set Free and Adele’s Hello, this trio is unstoppabl­e. They’ll wow you with their serious vocal prowess, showcasing spectacula­r high notes, heroic crescendos and captivatin­g three-part harmony. They will be accompanie­d by the Regina Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players. on Friday, February 14.

Doc Walker is one of the most recognized Canadian country acts of the past two decades with over 20 Top 10 singles. The group has received numerous Canadian Country Music Awards, including Fans’ Choice, Group or Duo of the Year, CMT Video of the Year, Single of the Year, and Country Music Program or Special of the Year. In addition, Doc Walker has been nominated for several Juno Awards for Country Album of the Year, including a win in 2009 for the album Beautiful Life.

LAILA BIALI February 15

The Blenders Concert Series is hosting a special concert on February 15 when they welcome jazz superstar Laila Biali to the community. This special event is being hosted at the Art Gallery of Swift Current.

Biali has headlined festivals and venues spanning five continents including Carnegie Hall. Her accolades include a 2019 JUNO Award for “Vocal Jazz Album of the Year”, “SOCAN Composer of the Year” and “Keyboardis­t of the Year” at Canada’s National Jazz Awards, a JUNO nomination for her studio recording Tracing Light, and a spot on Downbeat Magazine’s “Best Albums of the Year” list for her follow-up Live in Concert.

In 2015, Laila released her first album of entirely original music, House of Many Rooms – an indie-pop project featuring a star-studded lineup including the vocalist Lisa Fischer. In September of 2017, Biali was brought on as the host for CBC Music’s national radio show, Saturday Night Jazz.

Her latest project, a self- titled album released in January of 2018, debuted at #1 on itunes Canada and won Laila the top prize for Jazz in the Canadian Songwritin­g Competitio­n as well as a JUNO Award.

The Living Sky Casino has sold out a March 17 performanc­e featuring comedian Rodney Carrington.

Carrington is a multitalen­ted comedian, actor, and writer who has recorded eight major

record label comedy albums selling over three million copies. Morning Wood has been certified gold and Greatest Hits has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. Carrington starred in his own TV sitcom, Rodney, which ran for two seasons on ABC. He co-wrote and co-starred with Toby Keith in the feature film Beer for My Horses. He regularly performs to sold out crowds across the US and Canada.
