Legionnaires take two of three
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires won two of three games in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League last week.
Thursday, the Legionnaires opened 2020 with a comeback 3-2 win over the host Saskatoon Contacts. The Legionnaires trailed twice but tied the game with goals from Tylin Hilbig and Jakin Lawrence before Spencer Bell netted the game winner.
Logan Linklater, Ryan Mccleary, Jonah Regier, and Riley Dekowny also picked up assists.
Jacob Herman earned the win with 28 saves on 30 shots.
Saturday, the Legionnaires were one second away from a win over the visiting Prince Albert Mintos but eventually lost 4-3 in a shootout. Turner Mcmillen scored with one second left on the clock to force overtime.
Both Legionnaires were stopped in the shootout, while Josh Peppler and Dawson Springer both scored for the Mintos.
Brandon Von Hagen, Dekowny, and Quinn Strang all scored in regulation. Mccleary finished with a pair of assists, while Maguire Scheidt, Regier, and Bell all added single helpers. Herman took the loss with 28 saves on 31 shots.
Sunday, the Legionnaires returned to the win column with a 4-3 win over the visiting Tisdale Trojans.
The Legionnaires held a pair of leads but Tisdale fought back to tie the game twice before Rhett Evjen scored his second goal of the game with five minutes remaining to put the Legionnaires ahead for good.
Bell assisted on three goals, while Dekowny picked up a pair of helpers. Linklater and Lawrence also scored. Hilbig and Brett Fogg added assists.
Justin Dueck earned the win with 21 saves.
The Legionnaires finished the weekend with a 15-12-1-2 record in eighth spot in the 12team league.
The Legionnaires are on the road this weekend to visit the third-place Regina Pat Canadians on Saturday and the fourth-place Saskatoon Blazers on Sunday.
They also host the sixthplace Notre Dame Hounds on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
