Broncos lose three straight

The Swift Current Broncos lost all three games last week, but they did pick up a point in a shootout loss to Calgary to open the week.

Wednesday, Calgary’s Josh Prokop scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Hitmen scored a 4-3 shootout win over Swift Current, who had led 3-1 in the third period.

Prokop scored the lone shootout goal to complete the comeback for the Hitmen who outshot the Broncos by a 53-22 margin.

Cael Zimmerman and Carson Focht scored 3:59 apart in the final period as Calgary forced overtime with their late comeback efforts. Focht also opened the scoring just 2:15 into the first period during his twogoal performanc­e.

New Swift Current addition D-jay Jerome scored his first goal as a Bronco 6:06 into his first home game to tie the game 1-1. Swift Current built a 2-1 first period advantage when

Jaxan Kaluski scored on the power play. Kaluski added a second power play goal in the middle stanza as Swift Current enjoyed a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Swift Current ended up two-for-six with the man-advantage, while Calgary was held scoreless in seven power play chances.

Bronco netminder Isaac Poulter turned aside 50 of 53 shots in the shootout loss. Calgary goaltender Jack Mcnaughton improved to 14-4-1-1 on the season after stopping 19 of 22 shots.

Friday, the Broncos were shutout 5-0 by the host Saskatoon Blades. Rookie Koen Macinnes made 14 saves for his second Western Hockey League shutout.

Isaia Dilaura took the loss when he allowed two goals on five shots in 8:59 to fall to 4–3-0-2 on the season. Poulter made 31 saves on 34 shots over the final 51:01 for the Broncos.

Tristen Robins scored twice, while Martin Fasko-rudas, Colton Dach, and Chase Wouters also scored.

Saturday, the host Broncos lost 7-2 to the Saskatoon Blades to conclude a home-andaway set with their sixth consecutiv­e loss.

The Broncos outshot the Blades 10-9 in the opening stanza but fell behind 2-0 on goals from Wouters and Robins.

The Broncos got back into the game when Cole Nagy knocked home a rebound 4:02 into the second period for his fourth goal of the season. The Blades quickly regained control of the game with goals from Fasko-rudas and Alex Morozoff. The Broncos closed the period with a goal from Aiden Bulych when he fired home his 10th goal of the season on a three-on-two rush.

Kyle Krncovici notched a power play goal only 17 seconds in the third period to make it 5-2 Saskatoon. Aidan De La Gorgendier­e fired home the sixth and seventh goals for the Blades minutes later.

Poulter made 34 saves to fall to 8-19-1-2 for the Broncos. Macinnes earned the win with 26 saves.

The Broncos will have another home-and-away set this weekend when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and then head to Moose Jaw on Saturday.

They will also visit the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday.
