Fire Chief Mcclelland saluted at Celebratio­n of Life service

A large audience paid a fitting tribute to Swift Current Fire Chief Darren Mcclelland during a Celebratio­n of Life service at the Innovation Credit Union iplex on Monday afternoon.

Family, friends and fire fighter and emergency personnel representa­tives from across the prairie provinces turned out for the January 27 Celebratio­n of Life event.

Mcclelland, 48, braved a three and a half year fight with cancer before passing away on January 20.

He had worked for the

Swift Current and District Ambulance for a number of years before joining the Swift Current Fire Department. Mcclelland was promoted to Fire Chief in June 2018, after being promoted from his position of Deputy Fire Chief - Operations which he had held since 2013.

“It is with heavy hearts that we officially announce the passing of Fire Chief Darren Mcclelland. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Nicole, and daughters Ashley and Hayley, along with his extended family and many friends,” the Swift Current

Fire Department and the City of Swift Current shared in a joint statement regarding Fire Chief Mcclelland’s passing.

“Darren had and will always have the love and respect of the many people who were fortunate enough to have worked with him during his 22-plus years of service with the Swift Current Fire Department as a Fire Fighter, Deputy Chief and Chief.

“While on Monday we lost a colleague, a true friend and a brother, our fond memories of Darren will live on forever. May he Rest in Peace.”
