Bronco struggles continue down the stretch

-

The Swift Current Broncos were unable to find a win in three outings last week.

Wednesday, it was a familiar storyline as the Broncos hung around before allowing five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, in a 5-1 loss to the visiting Tri-city Americans.

D-jay Jerome scored the lone goal for the Broncos to open the scoring midway through the opening stanza.

The Americans replied with goals from Blake Stevenson, Marc Lajoie, Landon Roberts, Sasha Mutala, and Edge Lambert. Mason Dunsford earned the win with 41 saves for the Americans.

Isaac Poulter took the loss with 27 saves on 32 shots. Friday, the Broncos were unable to prevent their losing streak from reaching double digits in a 5-1 loss to the Spokane Chiefs.

The Chiefs opened the scoring only 1:32 into regulation when Luke Toporowski found the back of the net on a pretty two-on-one one-timer. The Broncos responded midway through the period when Hayden Ostir took advantage of a turnover and found the top corner for his seventh goal of the season.

The Chiefs put the game out of reach in the middle stanza when they fired 21 shots on goal and scored three goals. Adam Beckman, Michael King, and Ty Smith all found the back of the net for a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Reed Jacobson closed the scoring in the third period to complete his two-point outing during his first WHL game in his hometown rink.

Isaiah Dilaura fell to 4–8-0-2 with 49 saves. Lukáš Parík improved to 17-72-0 with 31 saves.

Saturday, the Broncos scored the opening goal before allowing eight unanswered goals in an 8-1 loss to the host Saskatoon Blades. Matej Toman scored the lone goal for the Broncos against his former team.

Chase Wouters and Martin Fasko-rudas each scored twice for the Blades, while Alex Morozoff, Zach Huber, Tristen Robins, and Caiden Daley all added singles.

Poulter took the loss with 46 saves. Nolan Maier won with 17 saves.

The Broncos will play three games again this week. They visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday and then host the Warriors on Saturday. They will also visit the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday to open a three-game Alberta road swing.
