Legionnaires conclude regular season
The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires played three games last week to close out the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League regular season.
Tuesday, the Legionnaires opened the final week of the regular season with a 7-3 win over the visiting Notre Dame Argos. The game was tied 3-3 early in the third period before the Legionnaires scored four unanswered goals over the final 8:28.
Tylin Hilbig led the way with two goals and one assist, while Tyler Council added a goal and two assists. Cash Arntsen scored twice and Brandon Von Hagen and Quinn Strang each added a goal and an assist.
Ryan Mccleary, Maguire Scheidt, Jaxon Martens, Jakin Lawrence, and Brett Fogg all added assists. Jacob Herman earned the victory with 41 saves.
Wednesday, the Legionnaires lost 4-1 to the host Saskatoon Blazers. The Blazers opened the scoring with goals from Hunter Mayo, Ryan Conion, Logan Cox, and Alec Saretzky. The Legionnaires outshot the Blazers 19-5 in the third period and got an unassisted shorthanded goal from Martens. Herman took the loss with 32 saves. Saturday, the Legionnaires concluded the regular season with a 3-1 loss to the host Prince Albert Mintos.
Kody Willick, Dallyn Peekeekoot, and Austin Mclean scored for the Mintos. Joel Favreau earned the win with 23 saves.
Martens scored the lone goal for the Legionnaires with assists from Scheidt and Logan Linklater. Herman took the loss with 35 saves.
The Legionnaires finished the season in eighth place.they will face the first-place Regina Pat Canadians in the opening round of the playoffs.
