Broncos prospect invited to Hockey Canada Goalie Camp
The Swift Current Broncos have had a good run of goaltenders in recent years and they may have found their crease successor to incumbent starter Isaac Poulter in Reid Dyck.
It was recently announced that the 2004born prospect had been invited to Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp. This year’s camp was a virtual edition that ran from June 9-12.
Dyck, from Winkler,
Man., was the Broncos fourth pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, 45th overall. He played for the Pembina Valley Hawks U18 program this past season, posting a 17-4-0 record with a .931 save percentage and 2.26 goals against average.
Dyck thrived in the post-season when he finished with a 3-0 record, including one shutout, a 1.33 GAA and a .968 save percentage in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League.
A total of 23 goaltenders were invited to the camp this year; five from the under-20 level, six from the under-18 level and 12 from the under-17 level.
“The Program of Excellence goaltending camp is a great opportunity to bring together the top young goaltenders in the country and assist with the development process for these athletes,” said Scott Salmond, senior vice-president of national teams for Hockey Canada. “Despite the unique nature of the year’s camp and the switch to an online delivery for our programs, we believe all 23 goalies will benefit from the world-class instruction as we continue to prepare for a new season.”
Online sessions included goaltender development, mental and physical performance, planning for short-term competition, environments for success, embracing the role of a back-up goaltender and more.
