Colter Wall kick drum auction raises funds for the Lyric Theatre
A piece of Colter Wall musical memorabilia has resulted in an almost $3,000 donation in support of the Lyric Theatre.
This past week Colter’s mom Tami Wall presented a $2,950 cheque to the Lyric following the auction of a kick drum used by Colter during his early performances on the Lyric Theatre stage. He had used a kick drum for a few years to help round out his sound.
“The kick drum ended up in our garage for quite few years. And then people started asking ‘hey, when is that kick drum coming back out?’ and he said ‘I don’t think I’ll ever use a kick drum again,’” Tami Wall explained.
The Folksingers Union, Colter’s fan club, held a charity auction in support of the Lyric Theatre. A fan in Jay, Oklahoma was the winner of the auction. The Folksingers
Union management kicked in some funds, an an anonymous donor matched the funds.
Tami Wall said it was nostalgic to be in the theatre where Colter made his stage debut, but the venue provides an invaluable opportunity for young performers to be in the spotlight.
“It’s good to remember that this is where kids get to start. And it seems so long ago now, but it really wasn’t that long ago,” she said.
“To me it’s also important that they’re still doing this. You never know when the next little kid gets up on stage and they could be out there in whatever genre they pick and can make it. And I think it’s important for people who have dreams and hopes that there’s people out there who have done it. It’s hard work but it’s possible. To me it warms my heart to know that’s still going here in Swift Current at the Lyric. That’s the most important thing to me is that it keeps going and we keep doing these things.”
