Group salutes efforts of essential workers
One of Swift Current’s unsung heroes received some recognition during a surprise celebration on November 14.
Members of Change The Narrative SC selected Valerie King from Swift Current Safeway as the first individual to be provided with a special recognition for her efforts as an essential work during the pandemic.
The project will be saluting a series of essential workers for their often thankless day to day efforts during these current uncertain times.
“Sometimes going to get groceries or heading to the checkout can be stressful or mundane. During the pandemic, it became a very demanding job as stress and risk was high for many people. You were one of the few faces that many people had contact with during this trying time. As someone who spread kindness to so many, you continue to make each encounter a little sweeter for each person, each time they come in contact with you,” Jenny Dewar, administrator of Change the Narrative SC told King during the recent recognition event.
Dewar said this will be the first in a series of presentations to deserving individuals.
“Our intention in this project is simple be a powerful conductor of kindness in the community and to bring encouragement, connection, and care.”
“This whole project is just focussed on love. As a young adult, I learned so much about love through my church and my faith. Our entire project is about living that understanding out in a way that actually lets people know they’re valued and seen.”
Pharmasave Swift Current was the initial sponsor, providing a selection of items to present to the first winner.
