The Lyric Theatre is one venue in a dozen communities which will host the incomparable Tom Jackson in a virtual performance of The Huron Carole.

Set for December 6 at 7 p.m., the Lyric Theatre’s performance of The Huron Carole is one of a series of 18 Huron Carole virtual concerts which will benefit local charities.

The Huron Carole is an over three faced long Canadian musical tradition which began back in 1987. Over the ensuing years Jackson has shared his musical talents along with a message of philanthropy.

Gordon Mccall, the Artistic and Executive Director of The Lyric Theatre, said this upcoming virtual event will be a perfect opportunity to see the concert after last year’s live show at the Lyric quickly sold out.

“This is particularly poignant at this point in our lives due to the COVID Christmas that we’re all going to experience. So we’re really thrilled that we can present it,” Mccall said while unveiling details of the virtual event.

This will be the first on-line streamed full production offered by The Lyric in 2020, and Mccall is happy they can continue the tradition of The Huron Carole after Jackson made his Swift Current debut with the show this past year.

The performance supports the Swift Current Salvation Army, and virtual admission to the performance is $20. Individuals who want to pay for a zoom call session with Jackson before the performance would pay an additional $5.

Mccall is also encouraging concert viewers to make a donation of a non-perishable food item or a cash donation to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Campaign. They have arranged for drop off location sat Walmart, Safeway or the Real Canadian Wholesale Club, plus donations can also be made directly to the Salvation Army.

“Tom reaches out so well to our good intentions,” Mccall said. “At this time of year he brings a lot of good cheer and good will to us as viewers. He also reminds us that love is involved in this - love of your own community and helping people in need.”

“We’re just starting to experience a really very difficult time in our area because the COVID cases are increasing,” he said. “If anyone ever underestimated it before, it’s certainly very, very apparent that this is nothing to be dismissed in any way.”
