Saskatchewan SPCA launches provincial emergency Pet Food Bank
The Saskatchewan SPCA has announced the establishment of the Saskatchewan Emergency Pet Food Bank (SEPFB) with an aim to keep families, including the furry members, together during the COVID-19 pandemic. In conjunction with the launch of the SEPFB, a dedicated fundraising campaign in support of the Food Bank also launches today.
In collaboration with Food Banks of Saskatchewan, the Emergency Pet Food Bank will serve pet owners in need of assistance to ensure their pets’ nutritional needs are met.
“We know that pet owners can find themselves in difficult situations trying to decide whether to feed themselves or their pets first,” explained Josh Hourie, the Saskatchewan SPCA’S Community Relations Coordinator. “Our goal is to make sure all members of the family are getting what they need as it relates to daily nutrition. Ideally, we will prevent families from having to decide whether they keep their companions or surrender their pet to a shelter or rescue.”
In the Southwest, both the Maple Creek Food Bank and the Swift Current Salvation Army Food Bank are participating.
The Saskatchewan SPCA is appealing to residents of Saskatchewan to support the Emergency Pet Food Bank by making a donation to the program. All proceeds to the Emergency Pet Food Bank will directly support the program and our goal of helping pets and their people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
