In the event of a passenger falling overboard in inclement weather or rough seas, the Smartfind S20 is specifically designed as a personal AIS search/rescue device to locate them quickly and efficiently. The unit simply attaches to a lifejacket and is activated once the PFD has been inflated, the featured orange locking tab is pulled and the red cap is released, which then deploys an antenna and triggers the device. With its built-in GPS receiver, the system transmits an AIS MOB message containing position and ID via AIS (and can displayed on a chartplotter or ECDIS display). The message can also be detected by other Ais-equipped vessels within range.
