WE ALREADY KNOW you’re a fan of cool classic trucks, so you’ll want to know about an event you need to add to your Can’t-miss calendar. Amazingly, the F-100 Supernationals has been providing Ford pickup owners from around the country with a great weekend’s worth of fun for the last 39 years. Held in the James E. Ward Agricultural Center in Lebanon, Tennessee, this year’s event brought 540 vehicles together for the Friday and Saturday get-together.
One of the traditional highlights of the opening ceremonies is show promoter Charlie Cobble’s introduction of almost a dozen vehicles making their debut at the show. All of the late nights and hardships were forgotten when each builder unveiled his creation to the crowd’s applause. While the debuting vehicles were exciting, it was the huge collection of trucks on display that soon became the center of the weekend’s activites. The selection ranged from meticulously restored originals to radical customs and almost everything in between. Spectators wandered the lines of highly polished vehicles, finding something new at every turn.
In addition to the gathering of Ford-powered vehicles, dozens of major manufacturers, swap meet dealers and food vendors added to the fun. Throughout the weekend, Iceman the DJ entertained the crowd with ’50s music and trivia. The Saturday afternoon awards ceremony got things rolling with door prizes that included a $1,000 gift certificate, new F-100 tailgate, coolers, toys for the kids and more. More than 200 laser-cut steel awards and half a dozen larger trophies recognized the winners in multiple categories. Congratulations to Lonnie and Juanita Lowry, winners of the Pat Ford Top Truck trophy, and Sean Marshall, who earned the Top Points award. At the closing award ceremony on Saturday, Cobble had some big news: This year there will be two F-100 Supernationals when the event returns to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Sept.
