FROM OUR EDITOR
As perceptive loyal readers may recall, my house is the stuff home makeover dreams are made of. The before: My Tudor-style abode suffered an unfortunate reno in the ’80s (think: stuffy wall colours, terracotta-tiled floors and lots of wood panelling). And after: The light-filled rooms are now elegant and airy, and pay homage to the home’s 1920s provenance. Soft muted palettes reign, and simple clean lines allow my precious vintage collections to shine.
Needless to say, I’m a sucker for a good home transformation, so the June issue, our makeover special, is one of my favourites to put together. Whether you’re in the midst of a whole-home overhaul or simply rearranging some furniture, look no further than the following pages for inspiration. Inside, you’ll find two jaw- dropping kitchen redos (“Labour of Love,” page 48, and “Making the Grade,” page 52) that had me dreaming up new schemes for my own cooking space. And “In the Name of Love” (see page 82) features the home renovation of interior stylist and former Style at Home managing editor Catherine Therrien. Along with her husband, Aaron Putman, Catherine beautified a 1960s sidesplit in Mississauga, Ont. From the beachy oak flooring throughout to the gorgeous coffered ceiling in the dining room, they did it all themselves. But it’s not only these large- scale projects that pack a big decor punch. Sometimes even the smallest decorating touches can lift up a space. ( Farmers’ market flower arrangement anyone? See page 56 for ideas.) So, I’d love to know: What home updates are on your summer to-do list? Are you currently renovating your house?
