When T3 was little, we wanted a robot that could help us do our homework, clean our room and make us look cool at school. Because, you know, we’d have a robot! This month, our childhood dreams are coming true with the launch of UBTECH’s Alpha 2, a humanoid for the entire family.
Designed in white, with either red or blue trim, the Alpha 2 has 20 joints to replicate a range of human movements. In UBTECH’s promo video, the 17-inch-tall robot is even seen doing yoga! But there’s more to it than full-body stretches...
This cheeky chap will chat back to you in English or Mandarin. Need to dictate a note or leave a voice message for a family member? The Alpha 2 can take those; it can also read aloud calendar reminders. With one of the ‘VAPPs’ (voice apps) UBTECH is releasing, the Alpha 2 will also be able to read bedtime stories to your kids, so you won’t have to sit through Peppa Pig Goes Swimming yet again!
The Alpha 2 is just as beautiful on the inside, with an 8kg torque-servo system powering its upper body, and 20kg powering its legs. The robot’s ‘brain’ is taken care of by a Samsung Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 chip, and there’s 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Fittingly, the robot runs on Android, but you can control the Alpha 2 from Android and iOS devices.
